The Higgs government has unveiled its plan to a return to a normal restriction free life in the province. The plan involves 3 phases beginning June 07th.
The first phase is dependent on at least 75% of New Brunswickers over 12 receiving their first dose of a COVID vaccine – hospitalizations remaining low – and all Health Regions remaining at the Yellow Alert Level. Some of the activities permitted in this level include contact with all family and friends – restrictions will be loosened for indoor and outdoor gatherings – organized sporting activities with some restrictions – and compassionate travel will be permitted with isolation and testing requirements in place.
Phase 2 is scheduled to begin July 01st providing 75% of New Brunswickers over 12 have received the first dose of a vaccine and 20% of New Brunswickers over 65 have received their second dose – hospitalizations remain low – and all Health Regions remain in Yellow. Some items in this phase include relaxation of more travel restrictions – businesses including restaurants – gyms – and salons will be permitted to operate at regular capacity as long as they maintain a contact list of customers – games and sporting competitions with teams based outside of Atlantic Canada will be permitted.
Phase 3 is scheduled for August 02nd – New Brunswick Day – as long as 75% of New Brunswickers over 12 have received their 2nd dose of a vaccine. This would see the province move to the Green Level with the Mandatory Order ending and all restrictions lifted.
Premier Blaine Higgs cautions “If we see a rise in cases and hospitalizations, or if we do not reach our vaccination goals, we will have to delay our target dates.”
