Some good news today for all expectant women in the province. Public Health says all pregnant women are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Until today – only today pregnant women with two or more chronic medical conditions could get a vaccination.
Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says “recent events in other jurisdictions have highlighted the risks of COVID-19 infection for pregnant women, possibly potentiated by the spread of variant strains.” She says “pregnant women who have COVID-19 appear to be more likely to develop respiratory complications requiring intensive care, and require ventilation, compared to non-pregnant women.”
Pregnant women can now schedule an appointment to receive their vaccine at a Horizon Health Network or Vitalité Health Network community clinic by registering online. If they are unable to book an appointment online, they can call 1-833-437-1424.
