As we near the one year anniversary of the declaration of the COVID pandemic – it seems COVID fatigue is bringing on a new sense of silliness at the federal level.

Reports in the Quebec press are suggesting those who travelled over the holidays – against government recommendations – whether essential or non-essential purposes – may now qualify for financial compensation if they get the virus or can’t work because of the 14-day quarantine period demanded by the federal and most provincial governments.

Why would the Trudeau government give even one second of thought to such a ridiculous idea? If you went on a trip – you knew what the consequences were – so why should you be rewarded for your stupidity and inflated level of entitlement? If an organization believes a trip is that essential – it should be prepared to continue to pay the employee or employees who are isolating. Anything more is a nothing short of a slap in the face to the rest of us who have – and continue – to do our best to follow rules and advice in the battle against COVID. This idea is the wrong thing at the wrong time for the wrong reasons – Full Stop! I’m Gary MacDonald.
