
It’s down to crunch time for those people who want to offer in the May elections – but – haven’t filed their nomination papers. Nominations for municipal councils – district education boards – and regional health authorities close at 2 this afternoon.
Here in Saint John – 4 people have filed papers for the Mayor’s seat – Darrell Bastarache – Donna Reardon – Mel Vincent – and Howard Yeomans. Six people have filed for the two Councillor at Large seats – 5 people have filed for the 2 Ward 1 seats – 11 have filed for the two Ward 2 seats – 6 have filed for the 2 Ward 3 seats – and 10 have filed for the two Ward 4 seats.
In Grand Bay-Westfield – only one person – Brittany Merrifield has filed for the Mayor’s position while 6 have filed for the 5 available council seats. In Rothesay – incumbent Mayor Nancy Grant is being challenged by Elizabeth Kramer while 9 people have filed papers for the 7 council seats. In Quispamsis – so far – Libby O’Hara is unchallenged for the Mayor’s seat while 9 people are seeking the 7 council seats.
