Mayor Don Darling is stepping up his battle to have the Saint John Police Force release its policies on dealing with systemic racism. The mayor who sits on the Police Commission has been at odds in getting the police department to release its policies covering a number of areas including the use of force and the department’s armoured rescue vehicle.

The mayor is presenting a motion at tonight’s Police Commission meeting to get the issue on the table for discussion. Darling says in a late night Tweet last night the Police Force has to operate “according to openness – transparency – accountability – and public trust.” He says we need to know the Saint John Police Force is leading and not following.
