As Black History month winds to a close – two local members of Saint John’s Black community have been honoured with the unveiling of their portraits in the North End.
Leana O’Ree and Joe Drummond are being honoured as two human rights champions in the city. The portraits were unveiled today on a building on Main Street near Adelaide. The building is owned by Derek Batsa who attended the Joe Drummond sit-in at a barbershop that refused to cut the hair of Black people a number of years ago.
The mural portraits by artist Ann Perry were sponsored by Marigolds and Murals.
