Provincial Finance Minister Ernie Steeves unveils the 2021-2022 budget in the Legislature this afternoon. The Minister’s number crunching has been made more difficult as the province enters year two of dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The third quarter financial report issued last month showed a projected deficit of 12.7 million dollars instead of the budgeted 92.4 million dollar surplus for the 2020-21 budget year. At that time Steeves said “with the emergence of new variants of the virus there remains a high degree of uncertainty in the outlook and we must continue to be prudent and vigilant in managing our finances.”
The Minister rises in the Legislature at 1 this afternoon to begin his Budget speech.
