An effort by the city to help attract people to the uptown businesses is gaining some interest. The promotion gives one hour of free parking in the uptown area to anyone using the Hotspot parking app to pay for their parking.
Uptown Saint John is partnering with the city to run the program – and – Executive Director Nancy Tissington tells newsysj.ca there were 134 new users for the week with 59 on the first day of the promotion.
The city is investing $35,000 for the program which runs until the end of March. Since the pandemic hit almost a year ago – foot traffic in the uptown is down by about 50%.
