Public Health is reporting a confirmed case of COVID in the Edmundston region has been identified as a “presumptive” case of a COVID variant by the microbiology lab at the Georges Dumont Hospital in Moncton. A sample is being sent to the national lab in Winnipeg for confirmation.
Five new cases of COVID have been confirmed around the province in the past 24 hours. There are two cases each in the Edmundston and Fredericton River Valley regions while the other case is in the Moncton region. All of these cases are linked to previous cases and all are self isolating.
A confirmed case of COVID has been identified at Ecole Notre-Dame in Edmundston. Students and staff remained home today to allow for contact tracing and school sanitization to be carried out.
The number of active cases now sits at 41 including two in the Saint John region. One person is in hospital. The COVID related death toll remains at 30 since the pandemic was declared last year.
