City Manager John Collin says there will be no further discussion of any ransom payment following a ransomware cyber attack on the city’s I-T network last November. Collin took a swipe at what he called “some irresponsible media reporting” indicating the city didn’t have any backups of data. He says that’s not true – the city did have backups and says the vast majority of data has been or will be recovered – therefore – any discussion about payment of a ransom is off the table.
The City Manager says a complete rebuild of the municipal I-T network is on track to be completed by no later than June. After assessing the impact of the attack – it was decided to rebuild the entire network with the latest technologies available.
Collin says a third party consulting firm has completed its review of the attack and found no indication of any significant breach of information from the networks including confidential police files – and – no compromise of personal information such as bank account and credit card numbers.
Meantime – the City’s new and improved web site is scheduled to launch today.
