Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – predicted a jump in the number of confirmed COVID cases over the weekend linked to New Year’s activities – and – unfortunately she is right. Public Health today reporting a total of 30-new cases in the past 24-hours. Three of those cases are here in the Saint John region – two people in their twenties and one in their forties.

The Fredericton Central zone is hardest hit with 8-new cases reported. Three of those cases were confirmed at Woodstock High and one in Townsview school. All staff and students are currently in self-isolation while contact tracing is underway.

A school in Dalhousie and one in Campbellton also had one case each confirmed. There was also a positive case at a Dalhousie Day Care.

There are now 171-active cases in the province including 33 here in the Saint John region. No one is in hospital. There have been 9-COVID related deaths since the pandemic was declared last March.
